Why is keyword research always suggested for beginners? If done properly keyword research pays off very well. First the keyword for the title of your blog, then for your URL,s then for your blog posts. It is keyword research I am speaking about. The reason is simple: it's free. But, if done properly and intelligently, the whole web is yours to enjoy. And the best part: keyword research has become very easy with the introduction of the keyword research tools that are available freely online.
With so many free keyword research tools blooming in the webmaster's world, it is not much difficult to choose a good one. The one by Google is my favorite. Whenever you think of a keyword do some keyword research and you will get at least twenty five topics at hand (leaving apart the competition stuff).
The next thing which helps you in keyword research is: you get to know about the competition and the number of competitors. If you are so bored and do not like going through a keyword research tool try entering the term in the Google search engine and see the number of results. If the number of sites is greater than a million forget about it, target the one which does not have so many sites competing for it. Anything till 25,000 is just fine.
Do not forget to put the main target keyword in the main URL. Once this is done, build the blog with keywords spread uniformly throughout the blog, making your site look less like a spam site. By the time you write a few hundred posts you will already be enjoying some one-way free back links. There are many people out there who respect creativity and research. Next, just search for sites related to your field and try to build a few quality links. Using comments is not much advisable. Use the article directories instead. remember: a blog is never a hit till it goes viral.
